Glossary

Some of the words or phrases we use on Affiliatesecure.com might be hocus-pocus to some affiliates. Here is an overview of the words, expressions and names we use on the site that can be confusing.

CAP – aka CasinoAffiliatePrograms.com. The biggest gaming affiliate community in the world. Known for its unbiased information and fanatic moderators. Affiliatesecure.com is approved by the CAP organization.

CPA – Cost Per Action or Cost Per Acquisition. The standard in the general affiliate market. In gaming affiliate less used than Revshare, but still good for a large portion of the market. With a CPA Deal an affiliate receives money for one transaction. In gaming this translates to receiving an x amount for signing up a depositing player on a one-time basis.

GPWA – the Gambling Portal Webmasters Association. Founded in 2001 to help affiliates in the gaming industry. Place to network with other affiliates in the industry. Also awards gaming affiliate portals with their seal who abide by the GPWA code of conduct, such as no spam, abiding copyright rules and professional behavior . AffiliateSecure.com is the proud owner of such a seal.

Hybrid- a hybrid affiliate deal is a deal which comprises of a mix between CPA and Revshare. For example a $50 + 25% hybrid deal gives you $50 for a depositing player + 25% of his future deposits.

Revshare – or in full ‘Revenue Share’. An affiliate program that works with revshare pays out a percentage of a transaction with the affiliate. This can be a percentage of player deposits or the amount a player loses and depends on the program.
Rogue – a term used in the gaming affiliate world for a program that is involved in unethical behavior in the broadest sense of the word. It ranges from programs that are pure rip-offs to the ones that actively shave off affiliate income to programs with ridiculous Terms & Conditions.

Scrubbing – happens when an affiliate program filters leads from affiliates which do not meet their criteria. The act of scrubbing itself is legit if a program tells you they scrub. For example, say for a no deposit bonus only players from certain countries count and you send players from all over the world, the affiliate program scrubs all the leads from prohibited countries.

Second Tier - when an affiliate that is promoting a brand receives a payment or rev share % for signing up another affiliate.

Shaving – the process which we are trying to stop here at affiliatesecure.com. Shaving in our industry essentially means the theft of players by an affiliate program. Occurs for example when a player that is tracked to you all of a sudden doesn’t bring in any more money. While this can be totally innocent, it also happens that a program calls up a player to sign him up at a different casino owned by the program to save on affiliate fees.

Shaving also happens when a percentage of payouts are subtracted. Comes in the form of ‘passive shaving’ when costs are deducted but are mentioned in the Terms & Conditions or is called ‘active shaving’ when expenses are deducted from your payout which are not mentioned in the T&C’s.

Tracking Platform
- refers to the software platform that an affiliate program uses to track affiliate statistics.
